Jingumae – a peaceful living environment, an oasis in the busy city

Shibuya-ku Jingumae includes the area centered on JR Harajuku Station and Meiji Jingumae Station on the Tokyo Metro Line.

Omotesando, Takeshita Street and Meiji Street in Harajuku are known for being stylish and cute. Omotesando is one of the most pleasant neighborhoods in Tokyo. As a major luxury shopping destination, it is also home to some of the most amazing examples of “human-scale” modern architecture that you will find anywhere in the world.

Takeshita Dori (竹下通り) is Harajuku’s most famous (and possibly Tokyo’s busiest) shopping street. It slopes down for 400 meters east of Harajuku Station and has played a significant part in directing and influence youth culture for the past few decades.

Harajuku Station – a historic building

Harajuku Station is the oldest surviving wooden station in Tokyo, built in 1924 (Taisho 13). In 2019, it was announced the station would be demolished after the 2020 Olympics, which later got postponed. The historic building was taken down in 2020 and replaced with a more modern station.

This area is known not only as the birthplace of fashion, but also as a foodie haven.

Searching on social networking sites, you will find that the Harajuku and Jingumae areas are full of cute food, high-end furniture stores, and exquisitely decorated stores.

In addition to great-looking food, you can also find internationally renowned restaurants in Harajuku. Not only can you find Japanese food, but you can also taste foreign food. Just dining on this street will give you the feeling of traveling the world.

Meiji Shrine

Meiji Shrine (明治神宮, Meiji Jingū), is a Shinto shrine in Shibuya, Tokyo, that is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shōken.

Meiji Shrine is located in a forest that covers an area of 70 hectares (170 acres). This area is covered by an evergreen forest that consists of 120,000 trees of 365 different species, which were donated by people from all parts of Japan when the shrine was established. The forest is visited by many as a recreation and relaxation area in the center of Tokyo.
